Keeping Your Cool at Glan Y Werydd House

Summer by the sea is glorious – but when the sun’s in full holiday mode, things can warm up quickly inside.

Glan Y Werydd House doesn’t have air conditioning, but with a few seaside-savvy tricks, you can stay cool and comfortable throughout your stay.

1) Draw the curtains – like you’re tucking the house in for a siesta
It’s tempting to throw them wide and let in that sparkling sea light, but you’ll also be letting in the heat. Keeping curtains closed during the hottest part of the day will help the inside stay pleasantly cool.

2) Keep the windows shut while the sun’s blazing
If it’s cooler indoors than outdoors, you’ll want to keep that lovely freshness in and the hot air out.

​

3) If you must let the sea breeze in, open the tops of the windows only
Hot air rises, so opening the tops will help it escape more quickly – like sending it on a little coastal cruise.

4) Let the evening breeze do its thing
Once the sun dips, throw open those windows and invite the cooler air in. If a cool daytime breeze is blowing in from the sea, open opposite windows to let it flow right through.

5) Fans at your service
Each bedroom has a fan (4 in total) – feel free to move them around Glan Y Werydd House to create your own personal trade winds.

6) Too hot to drift off?
If the duvet’s too warm, remove the cover and use it as a light sheet. You’ll also find thinner blankets in the wardrobes – perfect for a cooler snooze.

7) Skylights & seagulls
If you open the skylights, please close them before heading out – otherwise, you might return to find a curious gull inspecting your snacks!

​

8) Need ice?
Both Spar and Co-Op are just a short stroll away for ice bags – handy for drinks, cool boxes, or even a quick DIY ice pack.

9) Fancy a cone or a chilled drink?
You’re spoiled for choice here – from ice cream parlours to beachfront bars, there’s always somewhere nearby to help you chill out, seaside-style.
